Elisa Kleven
Elisa Kleven is the author and/or illustrator of over thirty picture books, including the classic best-selling titles Abuela, The Lion and the Little Red Bird, Sun Bread, City By the Bay, and The Paper Princess.
Her books have received numerous starred reviews, as well as awards and honors from the American Library Association, The New York Times, the Junior Library Guild, and the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
Abuela is currently part of Storyland, a traveling exhibit of seven classic children's books featured at children's museums nationwide. Her author/illustrated picture book, The Paper Princess, now in its twenty-eighth printing, has been adapted for two theater productions. Publishers Weekly says of her latest picture book, Glasswings (Dial, 2013), "The radiance of each spread seems purely intended to provoke joy, kindheartedness, and optimism."
