Kala Willette

Kala Willette is an author and artist based in Kalamazoo, Michigan with her two young children. With a master’s degree in comparative religion, she works as a part-time university instructor at Western Michigan University, is a certified yoga instructor and volunteers with Adapt: Community-Supported Ecology as a native plant garden coordinator. Raised by the shores of Lake Michigan, she is an avid hiker and beach goer known to pick up a rock or two (or 53) with her partner. She also loves to print black and white film, paint, draw, collage, and explore other art forms.

Victor Hugo said, "A writer is a world trapped within a person," and Kala endeavors to discover and illuminate those hidden worlds. She writes stories to help readers to negotiate a sense of self and identity, bring them comfort, peace and companionship, and maybe even manifest a little magic in their lives. Kala is passionate about bringing books into the world that celebrate nature and biodiversity, different cultures and places of the world and the complexity of the human journey and relationships in both lyrical and humorous ways.
