Sneed Collard III

Sneed B. Collard III has written more than eighty award-winning nonfiction and fiction books for young people including Animal Dads, Shep—Our Most Loyal Dog, Woodpeckers: Drilling Holes and Bagging Bugs, and Catching Air: Taking the Leap with Gliding Animals. He is also the author of seven acclaimed novels including Double Eagle and the Slate Stephens Mysteries series. His recent science titles, Fire Birds and Hopping Ahead of Climate Change—Snowshoe Hares, Science, and Survival were both named Junior Library Guild selections and have earned a host of other honors. In 2006, Sneed was awarded the prestigious Washington Post-Children’s Book Guild Nonfiction Award for his body of work. In addition to his writing for young people, Sneed is the author of the professional development book Teaching Nonfiction Revision (Heinemann, 2017) and a forthcoming memoir, Warblers and Woodpeckers: A Father-Son Big Year of Birding, which will be released by Mountaineers Books in 2018.
