Zeena Pliska

Zeena Pliska’s picture book debut, HELLO, LITTLE ONE: A MONARCH STORY (Page Street, 2020), about an intergenerational friendship between a butterfly and a caterpillar, received TWO starred reviews, with School Library Journal calling it, "Lyrically told and handsomely illustrated.” Zeena is a kindergarten teacher who has taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for over 30 years. She has been involved in children’s and women’s issues for the bulk of her adult life, lobbying legislators in Washington, D.C. and facilitating community meetings. Pliska’s forthcoming picture book, EGYPTIAN LULLABY (Roaring Brook Press), tells the story of a little girl divided between two cultures and was inspired by Pliska’s own experience as a child of Egyptian and Filipino parents. Zeena lives in Los Angeles with her teenaged daughter. You can find her online at https://www.teachingauthors.com.
