Priti Birla Maheshwari
Priti Birla Maheshwari was born in New Delhi, India, and moved to Canada when she was five years old. Her passion for writing began in high school when Priti fell in love with creative writing. Priti holds a Master of Education degree, an undergrad in French Language, and various Montessori Certifications. She has been a teacher for over twenty years, and also completed her Picture Book Intensive Certificate through VCFA.
Her debut picture book, Chaiwala!, was published by Owlkids Books in fall 2021. It was chosen by the Canadian Children's Book Centre as their 2023 Grade One Book Giveaway, and was distributed to over 500,000 students. It received a starred review from SLJ, was listed as one of Bank Street College of Education's best picture books for 2022, and garnered several awards.
Priti’s first early-reader series will be published in the fall of 2024 by Lerner Publishing. She is a member of CANSCAIP and SCBWI.
