Rebecca E. Hirsch

Rebecca E. Hirsch has written more than eighty books for young readers. A plant biologist by training, Rebecca enjoys sharing her love of science and inviting children to discover the natural world.

Her picture books include Plants Can't Sit Still, Night Creatures, and the forthcoming The Tallest Trees. Her books for middle grade readers include Where Have All the Bees Gone?, Living Fossils, When Plants Attack, and The Monarchs Are Missing. Her works have collected an array of awards including the Maryland Blue Crab Young Reader Award, a National Council of Teachers of English Notable Children’s Books in the English Language Arts, the Riverby Award for Excellence in Nature Writing, and the Green Prize for Sustainable Literature in Youth Books. Rebecca lives in a college town in the mountains of Pennsylvania, where she writes, grows gardens, bakes bread, tends a small flock of chickens, and goes for long walks in the woods with her dog.
